This weekend was pretty nice. Friday after work, I got in the car and ventured out to Owego, NY to see Melissa, who was staying with her sister. On my way out there, I listened to some sermons on Marriage by this pastor Tim Keller of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York City. He had some really helpful things to say and this series was recommended by Melissa's pastor in New Hampshire. I loaded them onto my iPod and it was nice to be able to listen to something that kept my mind busy on the drive out there.
Melissa and I had our first pre-marital counseling session on Saturday. There are normally 6 sessions but since we are so far away, we are trying to condense them. The pastor (who is also the pastor of Brad and Michelle's church) said that we could probably do it in three sessions. We would just have to cover more each session. We were there for three hours on Saturday. Although it didn't seem like three hours. Afterwords, having not eaten lunch, we were quite hungry and decided to go to an Italian place that Michelle recommended. It was amazing! Each dinner item had three size options: single person, couple, or family size. We ordered a couple sized portion. Salad and bread sticks came with it just like at Olive Garden. Needless to say, by the time we left, we were hungry no more.
We are reading three books for our counseling, listening to a series of 9 sermons, and also reading a little material that Melissa's dad gave to us and an extra book that Melissa's pastor from NH gave us. I feel like I should be an expert in Marriage before I even get there, but I know WAY better than that. I'm just trusting God that He will help us overcome any and all hardships that come. :)
I have 6 more weekends to spend as an unmarried man. I will get to spend three of them with Melissa. The wedding is coming. :) it's coming fast.
Until Next Time....
